Toolbox

One of the most useful pages I find on other sites is the resources or tools page.  I like to look at which tools other people find that help them out.   Here’s a breakdown of tools I use and recommend to become more efficient at what you do.

Some of these links are affiliate links,  meaning I make a commission if you decide to purchase.  The commission that is paid out does not increase the cost to you.  I recommend these products because they are useful and not because of the small commission I may make.  

Website Resources

  • WordPress-Many, many years ago when I first started building website I would code by hand.  Eventually WYSIWIG tools were created to make life easier.  I got out of the habit of building website for a few years and when I jumped back in WordPress was a new tool that people were using to build their sites and blogs.  It’s a great platform to start your blog but it also doubles as a content management system that makes web development so much easier than it’s been in the past.  WordPress is easy to customize, allow you to change themes or add widgets to enhance the functionality of your site.  
  • Studio Press-WordPress comes with many free themes but sometimes you want to upgrade to a premium theme.  This site runs the Generate theme on the Genesis framework.  There are many other themes to choose from as well.

Hosting

  • Bluehost-Of course, you need a place to host your website.  Bluehost is my host of choice.  I’ve never had a problem with their servers going down, they’re very affordable and easy to use.

Email Autoresponders

  • Aweber-This is my choice for email marketing.  Aweber is a powerful email opt-in service to build your mailing list.   It’s easy to use and easily integrated into your WordPress site.  
  • Mailchimp-MailChimp helps you design email newsletters, share them on social networks, integrate with services you already use, and track your results.  Another great way to build your email list with a free option.  This was the first option I used to build my email list.

Mind Mapping

  • Mindmeister-Get ideas out of your head and organize them in a usable format.  

Helpful Books

  • Tested in the Trenches- Geared toward financial advisors and how to build up their book of business but helpful tools if you’re an insurance agent as well.  There’s invaluable information on how to structure your office and create an efficient  system to set up new clients.  
  • Getting Clients, Keeping Clients-Another book that’s geared to financial advisors but that insurance agents could adapt to their practices as well.
  • The Excellent Investment Advisor-Anything by Nick Murray is pure gold.  This book is no exception.
  • Questions Great Financial Advisors Ask… and Investors Need to Know-Being successful has been contributed to the quality of questions asked.  If you need new questions, here’s a great book to spark ideas.
  • Storyselling for Financial Advisors : How Top Producers Sell-Put the power of story telling into selling financial products. The authors explain the process of making these intuitive connections, then translate their findings into understandable and practical strategies that any financial professional can use.
  • Duct Tape Marketing-John Jantsch shows you how to develop and execute a marketing plan that will give your business the life and longevity you knew you could have when you made that decision to go out on your own.

Screen Sharing

We’ve all heard stories about the people who sit at home making money in their underwear (I’m in my pajamas as I write this).  How do they do it?  They use screen sharing software so they can make their sales presentations to their clients without the need to physically be present.  There are a number of these programs out there so if these don’t fit your needs try searching for one that will.

  • Join Me-Free option
  • Anymeeting-Free and paid options.

Webcasts

  • GoToWebinar-Conduct do it yourself webinars for up to 1,000 attendees.  
  • Stealth Seminar-Nervous about presenting live?  Want to be more efficient and record your webcasts so you can broadcast them multiple times?  Stealth seminar is the key to doing this.  It looks like you’re presenting live but it’s pre-recorded.
